Team Values Alignment Process
The question that keeps arising time and time again in our work with organisations is that even if the most perfect team is hand picked to work together based on their talents and qualities the quality of the team performance is often unpredictable. Why is it that the teams’ performance often does not reflect the sum of the parts?
Every team exists to fulfil a particular purpose and vision through a set of goals and targets. Often though what gets in the way of excellent performance is less tangible. It appears as confused communication, muddled meetings, inconsistent commitment, unclear intentions and easy distraction. Much team building activity is aimed at addressing these issues.
One of the main sources of this intangible stuff is a miscommunication, misunderstanding or mismatching of the things that drive us as individuals. Our individual motivations or drivers either match or mismatch the teams’ direction and play out subconsciously between team members impacting communication and performance.
One solution to this is to bring the individual team member’s motivations into clear view and then work out what motivational shape the team needs to meet its goals. This can be dramatically revealing about what is really going on in the dynamics and what will actually enable the team to excel. This is a process for the brave leader as it can reveal the unspoken truths that then have to be addressed consciously!
To this end we have developed and tested a totally new way of helping teams to excel– the Team Values Alignment Process workbook.
This powerful process helps teams tap into each other’s real motivations and intentions enabling:
* Individuals to communicate their core values clearly
* Meaningful and honest communications within the team
* Key decision making about individual and team values match/fit
* A values relevancy check with the organisation and global trends
* Conflict resolution for individual and team conflicts
* Revitalised team direction with new conscious commitments
* Team role alignment with mission critical goals
* Alert and agile team based culture
You can read how the process works in more detail here: Case Study 1
The process is available as a downloadable 50 page workbook. It contains seven guided steps for some initial individual preparation and some team sessions. It can be facilitated by the team leader or an independent third party with unlimited use per organisational purchase. Do contact either us here at Future Plan or directly to Lorraine at the Passion@Work site for more details.
